К чему в данном предложении "about"

  • There are so many things they want to hear about. Объясните пожалуйста зачем и почему здесь "about"?

    They want to hear about --- бессоюзное придаточное определительное О которых они хотят услышать. (Предлог невозможно вынести вперёд, поскольку нет союза. Он опущен).
    Варианты:There are so many things about which they want to hear/ that they want to hear about.

    Извините, но, как говорил не помню кто, кажется Черчилль, "this is the sort of nonsense up with which I will not put," или, попросту говоря, это НЕ вариант.

    We can use which as the complement of a preposition:

    Early in the Autumn Term there is a reception at which you can meet current staff and students. (which refers to a reception and is the complement of at)

    We can put the preposition immediately before the relative pronoun (more formal) or at the end of the relative clause (more informal).

  • The title of the poem indicates that the poet knows himself to be separated from the community in which he grew up.

    Всё верно, только это никак не относится к фразовым глаголам, каковым является "hear about" (и "put up").

  • Дело в том, что фразовые глаголы, образованные от hear (hear of, hear about, hear from) исключают необходимость получения информации исключительно через слух. То есть можно сказать, например, "I've heard of/about/from him" даже если вы читали о нём в газете или получили от него письмо. Вот эта тонкость как раз и разрушается выносом предлога в начало предложения.
    "... things about which they want to hear" можно понять в том смысле, что они хотят именно услышать рассказ об этих вещах, в то время как "... things that they want to hear about" нельзя истолковать таким же образом.

  • А хотя, в принципе, и так тоже говорят, можно найти ряд примеров, но как правило с вереницей наречий в конце: "...about which we've heard a lot lately," и сдается мне, что авторы в этих случаях просто не нашлись с какой стороны от предлога эти наречия расставить, по каковой причине и было решено вынести предлог от греха подальше в начало предложения.

  • Так и не понял зачем там about. Можно простейшее объяснение?
