  • It's strange that when you get those "look at the trees" arguments, people don't realise that pushing it back onto a top down designer just makes it a whole heap worse. If the world really was a fine tuned design, then wouldn't it's designer have to be even more fine tuned to accomplish it, since the blueprint would have to exist in it? And how improbable it is that in the one universe that there is, such an incredibly fine tuned entity should exist necessarily rather than something else. The fine tuning argument (whether applied to nature or the constants of nature) is not an argument for god, but for the premise that complexity most probably arises from some simple underlying and pervasive substrate and similarly the laws of physics.
